a life creative

Art Interrupted

I’ll be ending this 12 year old blog here, today, and removing my website. I will no longer be posting on here. The last eighteen months in particular has been an unbelievably difficult time for me, and I can’t keep my chin above the water any longer.

Despite the website and ongoing (unpaid) time marketing/photography/facebook and instagram posts, etc, I have to admit defeat. Living off my art and jewellery has not been working for me, and being without a studio for the last six months has cemented that fact, and means that what I can make must be done so as a hobby. That’s a really difficult reality to face, but it’s THE reality nonetheless. I’m actively seeking a real grownup job. It’ll be nice to have an income again.

I recognise that facing this reality means I can enjoy my art again one day when I can come back to it, as an outlet for creativity and not the daily angst it’s become that it isn’t good enough and I am not doing enough to promote it.

Facing that reality means that I can at least enjoy what has been a financial thorn in the side for some time.

To all my followers and readers and those who have supported my creativity: I thank you and appreciate you for all your kind words, for all your creative love. Ciao for now!

Ugh that must be a mix of angst and relief…I’m so sorry, Ali. Glad you used the word “interrupted” instead of one more permanent. 😘

Hi Ali, sorry to hear about your creative defeat, but hope to see you back in action
soon. It is very hard to support yourself as an artist, especially on your
own! Don’t let it get you down. I’m not creating much these days either, no time
with job and toddler, but i know it will happen again soon. Do keep in touch.Naomi

Hi Naomi, a very belated thank you for your comment. ❤️ Yes it is a difficult reality to face, that being the struggle to support yourself as an artist…and one I’m finally coming to terms with. I’ve begun looking into a a masters in art as therapy. I still want to work within the world of art and I find psychology fascinating. I’m back in SF now, when it all stops being crazy with Covid a visit to Firenze is in order xx
